Groove Control

Created for the GMTK Game Jam 2020 

Theme: Out of Control

Story: The radio tower in Groove City is playing a mysterious song, hypnotizing all citizens who hear it! You must make your way through the city to the tower and shut off the music, fighting back against the song's manipulation along the way!

Gameplay: Groove Control is a 2D rhythm platformer with shifting controls! In keeping with the "Out of Control" theme, you controls for punching and jumping will rotate clockwise to the next face button over at certain points in the radio tower's song. You must make your way through the city, dealing with your shifting controls while fighting back against hypnotized citizens and collecting music notes to numb the song's affect on you!

Dev's Note: We hope you enjoy our game! Our concept was inspired by Super Mario 3D World's "beep block" levels, but with a focus on keeping track of your constantly shifting controls rather than the platforming itself. We worked right up to the final seconds of the jam, and while it's not exactly the most polished thing in the world (our own ambition may have got the best of us), we plan to clean things up and add new features in future releases! Known Bugs in the game's initial build:

-Punching Animation won't play if using a controller (mechanic is functional)

-A copy of the HUD may be stamped at a certain part of some scrolling segments

-Timing of HUD and control shifts may become out-of-sync with music if entering next segment at a specific time interval (unlikely, but possible)

Use Escape to close the game if you run into anything game-breaking!
